Algonquin Park trip 2009

Spring 2009 028.jpg2009's opening weekend of trout season did not disappoint in either the catch or the surroundings. There was a lot of ice everywhere within the park. This picture was taken Monday, April 27 and that ice is still a few inches thick in the middle. Those 4 pound and a half splake go with the 3 others we caught the days before.
Several interesting experiences on this trip including tobogganing the canoe across 20 yards of solid ice to get into a lake and then carrying the canoe through a wild thunderstorm. It's never boring and I look forward to fishing with my father-in-law every year.

Trout Season in Algonquin Park

In Ontario, the last Saturday in April is always the opening day of trout fishing season. Here is a picture taken during my 2008 fishing trip. Notice the ice, which was a couple inches thick in several places. It did eventually disappear during that opening Saturday but it took lot's of sun and a fairly windy day.
Flash forward to 2009 and we're once again wishing and hoping for the ice to disappear in time. All predictions are that it will be a similar opening day in Algonquin Park in that we'll be pushing through ice to get to our destinations. Oh, the crazy things we do for sport.
By the way, here's a mental image to describe what's happening in this picture... think back to the last time you had a cooler full of ice ... remember the sound it made while you were carrying it? That's exactly the same sound that a lake full of melting ice makes!

The Masters

Mid April in Southern Ontario and the golf season is just ramping up. A little late season snow has slowed it down again but a sure sign of warm days on the course is the arrival of The Masters.
It seems a little silly with all the pomp and circumstance, but you can't beat the TV coverage for the first major tournament of the season.
You have to love the live leaderboard as a fan of the game and I'm sure that company networks all over the world feel the affect at this time of year.
Good luck to southern Ontario's own Mike Wier who posted a respectable 68 today.

Spring is definitely here. The cats are driving me crazy wanting to get outside into the garden. This is a rare moment of relaxation with Smokey stretching on the bed. Wouldn't be great if they could speak?
P8090191.JPGThe title of this video was strange enough for me to have a look. Mike Rowe is the king of the Discovery Channel. He is the host of the Discovery Channel's Dirty Jobs, as well as narrator for other programs on the Discovery Channel, including Deadliest Catch.

Anyway... Mike has some very funny stories and extremely accurate insights into today's society.

Dave Grohl is the ultimate musician and entertainer. This live version of Stairway to Heaven from the Craig Kilborne show is a good example of his crowd-engaging style.

Comin' Home by City and Colour

This is a live performance of Comin' Home by City and Colour. The amazing Dallas Green at his best. Bit of trivia... He chose City and Colour because his name is made up of ... a city and a colour.
Wait out the commercial, it's worth the view.

You can sing along with every song, the lyrics are infecious and they even provide videos of many songs on their website. Check it out.
